Welcome to Very Personal Finance

Welcome to Very Personal Finance- a Blog designed to help you meet YOUR financial goals.

My name is Fred Peters and I’m a part time Blogger that has been writing about personal finance for several years.  In addition to writing about personal finance, I am captivated with the new and ever changing medium of blogging.  In addition to Very Personal Finance I also write at MMO Explorer, Newest on the Net and Online Banks Blog.

The purpose of Very Personal Finance is to help people take control of their finances and devel0p a system that help you to meet your life’s goals.  My personal finance philosophy is based around three principles.  These three principles form the foundation of this blog.

  • Personal Finance Is Personal
  • Only Sweat the BIG Stuff
  • Develop a Personal Finance System That Works for YOU

Personal Finance Is Personal – Very Personal

The is no one way to manage your finances.  My goal here is not to tell you how YOU need to manage your finances.  Instead, my goal is to help you to figure out what is most important to you and then to help you manage your money to accomplish those goals.

The key here is that I don’t know your life goals.  This is a very personal decision.  And, since these goals are only known by you, you need to have a base level of financial education so that you can create system to manage your money to achieve these goals.

Sweat the BIG Stuff

The advice of most personal finance gurus is about sweating the small stuff.  If I hear one more financial advisor state that you should stop buying lattes at Starbucks, I am going to puke.  I think this “sweat the small stuff”  advice is completely wrong.

Very Personal Finance is all about sweating the BIG stuff.

What is sweating the BIG stuff?  The best way to save money is to not cut out the small pleasures of life.  Sweating the BIG stuff is all about focusing on the most important aspects of personal finance. Very Personal Finance is a top down approach to person finance.  Focus on setting up your financial system, monitor it periodically and enjoy your life.

Too many personal finance writers write ad nauseum about being frugal by either depriving yourself from buying things or buy finding the best deals on toothpaste, milk, hair gel, etc.  But, is this really the most important thing to worry about when analyzing your financing?

No, way!!

No, the best way to save money is to save money on the BIG stuff.  If you know how to spend less money on your house and on your cars, you will save a lot more money than buy limiting the number of lattes you buy.  And, you will be a happier person.

You Need a Personal Finance System That Works for You

The last principle of Very Personal Finance is that you need a personal finance system that works for you.  I cannot tell you the exact system that will work for you.  But, hopefully, by following the first two principles, understanding your goals and focusing on the BIG stuff, you will have developed clear goals for your money.

Once you know what your financial goals are, then you need a system that gets you there.  Very Personal Finance will help you to develop this system.
